Two civic of­fi­cials among three in­jured in Be­la­pur ac­ci­dent

Three peo­ple, in­clud­ing two civic of­fi­cials, were in­jured af­ter the SUV they were trav­el­ling in was hit by a dumper at Be­la­pur sec­tor 21 on Satur­day.

The im­pact of the ac­ci­dent was such that the SUV hit a sta­tion­ary truck. The car was com­pletely dam­aged.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the three were trav­el­ling to­wards sec­tor 22.

Around 1pm, they stopped at traf­fic sig­nal near the In­come Tax Colony.

“The speed­ing dumper, which was also mov­ing in the same di­rec­tion, hit the SUV from be­hind. The car then swerved ahead and crashed into a truck which was also wait­ing at the sig­nal. All the three peo­ple trav­el­ling in the car suf­fered in­juries,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Be­la­pur po­lice sta­tion.

The in­jured have been iden­ti­fied as Yash­want De­sai, 40, Balkr­ishna Vare, 37, and Vish­wash Kolkar, 35.

They were taken to NMMC hos­pi­tal in Vashi and are re­cu­per­at­ing.

The dumper driver fled the spot af­ter the ac­ci­dent, leav­ing be­hind the ve­hi­cle. The po­lice are yet to ar­rest him.

The po­lice have reg­is­tered a case against the driver un­der sec­tions 279, 337, 427 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) and sec­tion 134 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act against him.

“Since we have seized the dumper and also got its reg­is­tra­tion num­ber, it will not be dif­fi­cult to trace the driver,” an­other po­lice of­fi­cer said.

"We have sent our of­fi­cials to look for him and he will be in our cus­tody soon. We also try­ing to find out if it is a case of drink driv­ing," he added.
