Get, set and cycle 180 km in Thane

More than 180 cyclists will participat­e in an amateur team cycling event to be held in the city on September 18. The event, Veloraid 2016, organised by Lakecity Pedalers (LP) a city-based cycling group along with Haybren Events will be held from Thane to Vaitarna and back to Thane.

This is the fourth year of the event, which will be held from 6am to 6.30pm. Suman Ghosh, co-organiser of the event said, “The race will be only for amateur cyclists. We had registrati­on from over 50 teams, however, twenty others were disqualifi­ed. The rule is to have each team of six members out of which three should be novice cyclists.”

The group will distribute 20 cycles to schoolchil­dren in Vaitarna during the event so they do not have to walk for miles to reach the school.

Joy Joseph, a member of the group said, “The cyclist will have to ensure that they keep a distance of 50m between the first and the last member.”
