Get, set and cy­cle 180 km in Thane

More than 180 cy­clists will par­tic­i­pate in an am­a­teur team cy­cling event to be held in the city on Septem­ber 18. The event, Veloraid 2016, or­gan­ised by Lakecity Pedalers (LP) a city-based cy­cling group along with Hay­bren Events will be held from Thane to Vaitarna and back to Thane.

This is the fourth year of the event, which will be held from 6am to 6.30pm. Su­man Ghosh, co-or­gan­iser of the event said, “The race will be only for am­a­teur cy­clists. We had reg­is­tra­tion from over 50 teams, how­ever, twenty oth­ers were dis­qual­i­fied. The rule is to have each team of six mem­bers out of which three should be novice cy­clists.”

The race will be­gin from Yeoor Hills to Vaitarna. The cy­clists will cover the The event aims at pro­mot­ing the use of cy­cles for com­mut­ing in the city for fit­ness.

The group will dis­trib­ute 20 cy­cles to school­child­ren in Vaitarna dur­ing the event so they do not have to walk for miles to reach the school.

Joy Joseph, a mem­ber of the group said, “The cy­clist will have to en­sure that they keep a dis­tance of 50m be­tween the first and the last mem­ber.”
