Vax drive: 17K turn up in Thane
THANE: Over the last ten days, 17,763 out of 60,842 registered health workers got vaccinated across Thane district. The district health authorities increased the number of centres from 23 to 42 since Wednesday to increase the number of vaccinations per day.
Kailas Pawar, civil surgeon, Thane district, said, “With special permissions from the state government, we have increased the number of vaccination centres across the district. Thane Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation have the most number of registered frontline workers in the district.”
“Hence, these two civic bodies now have 10 vaccination centres each. Similarly, other civic bodies have also increased their vaccination centres. This has led to an increase in daily immunisation to 4,200.”
The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has four centres, Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has five, Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation three, Ulhasnagar one and Thane rural eight centres.
Initially, the number of daily vaccinations was low.
However, after an increase in the number of vaccination centres on Wednesday, the first day saw around 96 per cent immunisation through the day.
“Every day, we have a target based on the number of vaccination centres as each centre has to immunise 100 beneficiaries.”
“The daily target initially was 2,300. Not, it is 4,200. We still have around 43,079 frontline workers to be immunised,” said Manisha Pingale, Thane district information officer.
