NAVI MUMBAI: The Rabale MIDC police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Chembur for killing his 19-year-old friend from Dombivli and dumping his body on Shilphata Road in the wee hours of January 26 after he found that his friend was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend.

On the afternoon of January 26, an auto driver noticed a dead body on the side of Shilphata road and alerted the police. Rabale MIDC police circulated the photo of the person on social messaging groups.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, Suresh Mengade said, “One of the constables of the Taloja police station identified the man to be the same person about whom another man was enquiring in the police station on the same day. It was found that the deceased was Ameerul Ashfaq Hassan, a resident of Dombivli and worked in a bakery there. A ‘missing person’ case was filed by his uncle and he was enquiring about him in the other police stations including the Taloja police station. That’s how the constable remembered.”

After the deceased was identified, the police started working on the technical evidence and verifying the call records of the deceased, and found that he was last contacted by his friend Zuber Abdul Hassan Khan. Both the deceased and accused hail from Uttar Pradesh.

The accused had once introduced the deceased to his girlfriend in their hometown. After coming back to Mumbai, Khan had once made her a phone call using Hassan’s phone as his battery had drained out. After Hassan got her number, they both started chatting and talking to each other often. The girl started ignoring Khan. The suspicious Khan checked Hassan’s WhatApp chats and found that they were having an affair.

On the intervening night on January 25 and 26, Khan, an auto driver, went to Dombivli and picked up Hassan offering him to have alcohol in Chembur. After not finding any alcohol shop open, Khan decided to drop Hassan back to Dombivli and asked him to ride the auto.

After reaching Shilphata Road, Khan ensured that there was no one on the road and asked Hassan to stop as he wanted to answer nature’s call. When Hassan stopped the auto, Khan stabbed him from behind and killed him.
