The doubling rate of Covid-19 cases in Navi Mumbai has now come to 676 days, which is almost two years and the reason behind that, the authorities claim, is due to the better recovery rate.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has currently a recovery rate of 96.43 per cent. The doubling rate in September last year was 79 days.

Additional commissioner, NMMC, Sujata Dhole said, “In July, our doubling rate was very less as the daily cases were also high while the recovery was slow. Now, our recovery rate is on par with the national recovery rate, which is 97 per cent.”

The active cases have gone down, so also has the number of deaths. In January, there were seven such days wherein no death was recorded. In April 2020, the doubling rate of the positive cases changed from 11 days to six days.

“Even as the number of cases has gone down, the civic body has not brought down the number of testing. Testing is carried out even at railway stations. In January alone, 53,723 people were tested, of which 2,007 were found positive,” a NMMC official said.

With fewer Covid patients, the corporation has shut around 10 Covid care centres and two dedicated Covid care centres. Currently, the weekly average number of patients found positive is 67 with 819 active cases. In all, 5.33 lakh swab tests have been conducted while the weekly average swab tests conducted is 1,742. Total antigen tests conducted so far is 2.88 lakh.

The highest number of active cases is in the Belapur ward with 133 patients and a 1.82 per cent case fatality rate. It is followed by Koparkhairane and Nerul with 132 active cases, and 2.07 per cent and 1.71 per cent fatality rate, respectively. The least number of active cases are at Digha with 19 active cases and highest fatality rate of 3.08 per cent.

Navi Mumbai has, so far, had 57,882 positive cases and 1,117 succumbed to the virus.
