Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 project to be ready by Dec 2021, promises Cidco
NAVI MUMBAI: The Cidco has assured that Navi Mumbai residents can board the first phase of the much-delayed Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 project by December this year while the entire line will be done in another year.
The first phase will be from Central Park in Kharghar to Pendhar. Cidco is developing four elevated corridors under Navi Mumbai Metro. The trial run of the over ₹4,000Cr line 1, admeasuring 11.1km with 11 stations from Belapur to Pendhar in Taloja, has been conducted successfully.
Cidco has appointed Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) for faster implementation of the project. It is expected to complete the first phase of the work from Central Park in Kharghar (Station 7) to Pendhar (Station 11) by December
2021. Work on the project from Belapur (station 1) to Sector 14 in Kharghar (Station 6) is slated to be completed by December 2022.
Cidco VC-MD, Sanjay Mukherjee, “The project has been under way for 11 years. There have been many technical issues, while the car sheds and rakes are
ready, the work on the stations is remaining. Once we get the safety certification from commissioner, Metro Rail Safety, we are confident of partial commercial operations of Line 1 from December 2021 and full operations from 2022.”
On the status of Line 2 and 3, the DPR for which has been
approved by Cidco, Mukherjee said, “The approval process is under way for a cabinet resolution by government of Maharashtra and a Government of India notification authorising Cidco as the agency for the project. We are hopeful of early permissions to begin work on the rest of the project.”
