Tuchel extends Chelsea contract
LONDON: Chelsea rewarded manager Thomas Tuchel for winning the Champions League in his first five months in charge with a new contract to 2024 on Friday. Veteran defender Thiago Silva, 36, and French striker Olivier Giroud, 34, have also seen their deals at Stamford Bridge extended to 2022.
Tuchel joined in January with the Blues languishing in ninth in the Premier League. But Chelsea were revitalised by Tuchel’s arrival, climbing the table to finish fourth before winning European club football’s biggest prize against Manchester City in Porto last weekend.
Washout on 3rd day of Eng-NZ 1st Test

Hard quarantine for Indian players SOUTHAMPTON: India spinner Axar Patel has revealed that the team will serve a three-day hard quarantine before it is allowed to train at the Aegeas Bowl here ahead of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand which begins on June 18. The squad was in quarantine for 14 days in Mumbai prior to its departure and is in the middle of another yet shorter quarantine.

Milkha’s 82-year-old wife Nirmal continues to be in the ICU of the Fortis hospital. “Mrs Milkha Singh has deteriorated with progression of disease and increase in oxygen requirement. She is presently on HFNC (High Flow Nasal Cannula) and NIV (Non Invasive Ventilation) intermittently,” the hospital said.
Perez fastest in practice for Azerbaijan GP
BAKU: Mercedes is slow again on a street circuit. Lewis Hamilton was a second off the pace of Red Bull driver Sergio Perez on Friday and nearly as far adrift of standings leader Max Verstappen. Perez set a time of 1 minute, 42.115 seconds in the second practice to lead Verstappen by .101. Mercedes, meanwhile, could only manage 11th for Hamilton and 16th for Valtteri Bottas.
