NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has vaccinated more than 550 bedridden patients – 381 at old age homes and 169 at their own homes, since July 23.
Municipal commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, said, “On July 23, we started vaccinating the bedridden citizens who cannot come to vaccination centres. We have also started going to the old age homes to vaccinate the residents there.”
Vashi resident Mamta Kapoor said, “My mother Manju is 84 and suffers from arthritis and knee pain. The NMMC personnel came to our house and administered the vaccine dose, much to our relief.”
For the vaccination, a no objection certificate is taken from the patient’s doctor and consent is also taken from the patient. Families with bedridden members can contact their nearby Urban Health Primary centres or call on the NMMC call centre number 022-27567460.
NMMC has also vaccinated 881 persons from special categories including transgenders, homeless and beggars.
The homeless persons and beggars were first counselled and after getting their consent, they were vaccinated by recording their biometric data. Bangar said, “The most difficult part is to convince them. In some cases, there are drug addicts who cannot be vaccinated as they can be prone to complications arising out of the vaccination.”
Similarly, 98 female sex workers, 124 transgenders, 186 persons with disabilities, 169 pregnant and 114 lactating mothers (while getting discharged from NMMC run hospitals) have been vaccinated. For transgenders and sex workers, vaccination is done using Aadhaar card of an employee of social development department.
