TWO ARRESTED FOR MURDER
KALYAN: The Vitthalwadi police have arrested two persons for murdering a man and throwing his body in a lake last month. The body was unidentified for some time. Following a detailed investigation, the police reached the man’s family and arrested his two friends.
The police found the victim, Chandrakant Shelar, 32, resident of Ghansoli, on August 30 in a lake near Chinchpada area. Police checked missing complaints’ reports in Thane and Navi Mumbai.
K Thorat, senior police inspector, said, “The post-mortem revealed it to be murder as his throat was slit with a sharp weapon and there were other injuries on his body. His wife, Meena, 29, had registered a murder case against unknown person. Through technical details and statements from the deceased’s friends and neighbours, the police identified the two accused Sajan Kamble, 26, and Divine Gonsalves, 24. The two confessed to the crime during interrogation.”
Shelar and Kamble were neighbours and fought regularly as Shelar, an alcoholic, used to accuse Kamble of having an affair with his wife. He also allegedly physically abused his wife over the same suspicion. Tired of the daily fight, Kamble hatched a plan to kill Shelar with the help of his friend, Gonsalves.
Thorat added, “They asked Shelar to meet them to sort the issue and also party with them. They got him drunk and took him to the lake, slashed his throat several times and threw him in the lake. Police arrested them. However, there is no evidence of Meena’s involvement.
