KALYAN: A 30-year-old man was killed in broad daylight by five persons with sharp weapons including sickle, knife and rods at Netaji Chowk, Maner Village, Kurla Camp in Ulhasnagar.
The Hill Line police have arrested the five accused within eight hours of the incident. The deceased had an old rivalry with the accused. The accused were nabbed by both Hill Line and Vitthalwadi police.
The incident happened at around 2pm. The deceased was identified as Sushant Gaikwad alias Rawan. The accused were identified as Akash Shinde (30), Amol More (25), Akash Chaudhary (24), Yash Rupavate (26) and Abhay Thorat (26).
The deceased had attempt-tomurder case registered against him in Vitthalwadi police station. Shinde and the deceased were involved in extortion, attempt-to-murder and assault cases since the past few years.
Hill Line police station senior inspector, L Sariputra, said, “Gaikwad and Shinde worked together earlier. They had three cases registered against them in different police stations of Thane. Both of them got separated and became each other’s rivals. They always tried to show their clout to each other and to other people too.”
On Friday morning, Shinde’s mother filed a complaint at the Vithalwadi police station against Gaikwad for unnecessarily showing his power by verbally abusing them and creating hurdles in whatever they start working on. After the complaint, a furious Shinde and his four friends confronted the deceased and had a huge altercation after which they beat him to death.
