Probe into projects by blacklisted contractors: TMC
THANE: The contractors blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also have contracts in the Thane Municipal Corporation.
This was revealed in the standing committee meeting.
The standing committee chairman Sanjay Waghule has ordered an inquiry into the projects undertaken by the contractors. The committee has also given a stay on the proposals tabled in the meeting which involve the contractors.
The BMC has unearthed corruption in road works worth in crores and blacklisted several contractors related to these works. They have also set up an inquiry into the works of these contractors.
NCP corporator Yogesh Janker questioned the administration in the meeting over the blacklisted contractors.
“Are any of these contractors carrying out any projects in the city?” he said.
Another NCP contractor Najib Mullah said, “What measures has the Thane Municipal Corporation taken to ensure that the Mumbai incident is not repeated. Is the corporation aware what projects are undertaken by these blacklisted contractors?”
The civic administration agreed that some of these contractors are alloted projects in Thane too.
Ratan Awsarmol, city engineer, said, “We do not have the information on where the work of these contrators is going on. We will prepare a list in the coming days.”
Additional municipal commissioner Ashok Rankhamb added, “Such a lax attitude will not be tolerated. The officials should be aware of such matters. All the departments should take precautions while allotting contracts in future. They should collect the information and submit to the committee so the further course of action can be deicded.”
Waghule gave directions to form a three-member committee to inquire into the work of the contractors.
