DOMBIVLI: A 32-year-old man died after his two-wheeler was hit by a truck on Sonarpada Road in Dombivli on Thursday.

The truck driver, Vinodkumar Rudra Mishra, 50, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested and remanded in police custody for three days.

The deceased, Kiran Manohar Chavan, worked as ATM service man and was a resident of Nilje area in Dombivli. He is survived by his wife and a one-year-old son. On Thursday, on the day of Raksha Bandhan, Chavan told his three sisters that he will be back by evening to be together for the festival.

He had hardly crossed 2 kilometres, when a truck hit Chavan’s bike from behind at Manpada circle. Chavan lost control and fell. The truck ran over Chavan.

His neighbour Dipak Gaund, 43, passed by the accident site and saw a huge crowd. “I returned home and saw that my neighbour’s bike was not there. I alerted the other neighbours and Chavan’s family.”

“He had told his sisters that the work load is less because of Raksha Bandhan and he would be back soon,” added Gaund.
