THE MOVE WILL SAVE A COMPLAINANT’S TIME FROM GOING TO POLICE STATION TO LODGE A CASE

THANE: You can now register vehicle theft complaint online.

The police have been trained to lodge such complaints online so that tracking the stolen vehicle will become easy.

The police will also keep an eye on those vehicle which are parked outside housing societies and are not claimed by anyone for more than two weeks.

If you come across stranded vehicles, you can inform the police by logging on to www. vahanchoritakrar.com and send photos too. The site is linked to all RTOs in Maharashtra and the information is updated on WhatsApp number, Facebook and Twitter of the Thane police.

A police officer from Thane commissionerate said, “Whenever a person logs on to the site, he will have to register his details and after completing the formalities, he can lodge a complaint online.”

After the complaint is registered, it is forwarded to senior police officers and is then forwarded to the police station concerned. The investigation will be done manually but it will save a complainant’s time from going to police station.

Rashmi Karandikar, deputy commissioner of police (headquarter 1) said: “With this move, we are sure that vehicle thefts can be reduced. The awareness among the citizen is very less and that we are making continuous effort to spread the word. We are also training the local police on lodging complaint online.”

A police officer from Thane commissioner office said, “Complainants will have to give details such as chassis number and ID proofs which will help us register the complaint.”

Karandikar said that they also have a tie-up with insurance company so that no one can give false complaints.
