David Guetta’s city concert cancelled after police say no
MUMBAI: The Mumbai police have refused permission for the Grammy award-winning DJ David Guetta’s concert, w h i ch wa s s c h e d u l e d t o take place on Friday at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), with officers saying that the organisers did not complete the “mandatory requirements and legal formalities”.
“We have rejected permission to organisers of Sunburn Arena event for not completing the mandatory requirements and legal formalities,” said Mumbai police spokesperson and DCP Ashok Dudhe. “Organisers of the Sunburn event came to us for permission at the last moment. They did not inform or discuss plans about safety and security of the people who were going to attend the event. They did not show us maps of the event venue and traffic management plans.”
The three-day festival was initially supposed to take place at the Mahalakshmi racecourse, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) refused permission on Thursday, saying the organisers did not have a nod to use the racecourse.
O n T h u r s d ay, G u e t t a ’s Bangalore concert, which was supposed to kickstart his fourcity tour to Mumbai, Hyderabad and New Delhi, was also cancelled. While the organisers said the concert was cancelled owing to the law and order issue in the wake of the molestation incident on New Year’s Eve, authorities said permission was denied owing to local polls and the organisers not applying for permission on time.
