THANE RPF RECOVER BAG WITH VALUABLES WORTH ₹9 LAKH
THANE: The Thane railway police recovered a bag containing gold jewellery and other valuables worth ₹9 lakh, which was left by a passenger in the luggage compartment of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus CSMTbound local train on Friday.
The passenger got down at Kalyan and realised that he had left his bag on the train. He informed the police who recovered the bag at Thane.
Ulhasnagar resident Vishal Tarani, 30, had returned from Dubai with the valuables. He was travelling in the slow local with his friend to Kalyan.
“Both passengers were traveling in the luggage compartment of the local and forgot the bag while de-boarding at Kalyan, at 1pm. The same train was scheduled to run towards CSMT as a slow local.
“The passengers remembered about the bag when the train has already left Kalyan station and immediately informed the railway police who forwarded the information to the Thane railway police team,” informed a Thane Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer.
The RPF inspected the luggage compartment at Thane railway station and recovered the bag.
“The bag contained gold jewellery worth ₹6.6 lakh, four laptops worth ₹1.6 lakh, one passport, Tarani’s United Arab Emirates (UAE) resident card, foreign currency worth ₹50,000 and other valuables, together worth ₹9 lakh,” said R Pandav, senior police inspector, Thane RPF.
“The bag and was handed over to Tarani after due verification and proper acknowledgment,”
