NEWDELHI: ThePresidentofIndia, RamNathKovind,hascancelled allhisengagementsindefinitely, as news broke that BJP MP Dushyant Singh had attended a party where Bollywood singer, Kanika Kapoor, who tested positiveforcoronavirusinLucknow on Friday, was present. Kapoor hadlandedinMumbaifromLondon on March 9, and then travelled to UP. The President had hosted Singh, along with other MPs from Rajasthan and UP, on Wednesday. Senior ministers, including defence minister Rajnath Singh, were present at the breakfast.

Singh and his mother, former RajasthanCM,VasundharaRaje, went into self-quarantine when Kapoor’s results became public.

Four other Lok Sabha MPs —

Derek O’ Brien, Anupriya Patel, SatyapalSingh,andVarunGandhi — who had directly met Singh, and one other MP — Sanjay Singh, who had met O’Brien — went into self-quarantine. As didtopgovernmentbureaucrats who had attended a meeting where Singh was present. UP ministers,SiddharthNathSingh and Jai Pratap Singh, who attended the party along with Kapoor, also went into quarantine in Lucknow.
