KALYAN/NAVI MUMBAI: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), which began vaccination for the frontline workers on Thursday, saw a poor response on the first day with only 42 getting vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the civic body managed to vaccinate 254 health workers.

“The response was poor since morning. Only 42 of them came and took the dosage. Compared to the health workers, the response from the frontline workers was low. There is a fear among many about side effects that we need to counsel,” said Dr Pratibha Panpatil, epidemic officer, KDMC.

Panpatil has planned to direct every head of the department of KDMC to counsel the workers of the particular department and send them for the vaccination.

“All the HODs will be directed and appealed to counsel their department workers so that they come to take the vaccination,” added Panpatil.

So far, out of the 4,400 target set by the KDMC, 3,995 beneficiaries have been vaccinated till date, 42 of which are frontline workers. The remaining are health workers.

Low turnout at NMMC Meanwhile, in Navi Mumbai, only 56 per cent of the healthcare workers turned out for vaccination of phase I drive in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.“Most of the absentees were those who had night shifts and had to take rest during the day. While some others were those who were out of town or had health issues,” a medical officer said. Of the expected 1,520, only 860 turned up.

The response of the frontline workers, on the other hand, is good. From Wednesday, the second phase of vaccination had started wherein 195 frontline workers of the 300 targetted were vaccinated while on Thursday, 217 of the targetted 300 were vaccinated.
