FAMILY OF KILLED BROTHERS SAYS COPS LENIENT TO ACCUSED; POLICE DENY CHARGES

NAVI MUMBAI: The family of the two Gamare brothers, Akshay, 29 and Sanket, 24, who died in a hit-and-run case on Palm Beach Road has alleged that the police have given plenty of leniency to the accused, who is the son of a famous hotel owner in Navi Mumbai.

The accused, driving a highend car, allegedly hit the two brothers on February 8 and fled the spot instead of helping them with treatment.

The family of the two deceased, both sons of an assistant sub-inspector in Mumbai, has taken to social media to point out loopholes in the case filed against the accused. The entire accident was captured on CCTV cameras at the spot. A day after the accident, the police arrested the accused – Rohad Abbott, 32, but the court granted him bail on the same day.

Sameer Gamare, 26, brother of the deceased, said, “We have come to know that after the accident, Sanket was alive for the next 25 minutes. He would have survived had he been taken to a hospital by the accused. However, the accused ran away from the spot, leaving behind his car.

“The accused was allegedly drunk when the accident took place, but the police did not mention that in their documents. Initially, they informed us that they had found two liquor bottles inside his car. When we enquired later, they said that both the bottles were sealed. The police could not arrest the accused for the next 30 hours till he surrendered on his own. We believe the accused took that much time so that the police could not find out if he was drunk.”

The APMC police, however, denied all the allegations.

Vikas Ramgude, senior inspector of APMC police station, said, “We have sent the blood sample of the accused to the forensic lab to find out if he was drunk when the accident took place, but have not received the reports yet. As far as the other aspects are concerned, we are still investigating the case.”
