Padikkal slams second straight ton

BENGALURU: Young opener Devdutt Padikkal smashed a second successive century to lead defending champions Karnataka to a nine-wicket win over Kerala in the Vijay Hazare Trophy here on Friday.

Chasing Kerala’s 278, Karnataka cantered home with 27 balls to spare with the lefthanded Padikkal hitting 13 fours and two sixes in an unbeaten knock of 126 from 138 balls.

Elsewhere, Tamil Nadu ended Jharkhand’s three-match winning streak with a 67-run win in a Group B match, while akipper Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 133 took Baroda to a 13-run win over Chhattisgarh.

Deepak upsets world boxing champion Zoirov

NEW DELHI: Asian silver-winner Deepak Kumar (52kg) on Friday stunned Olympic and world champion Shakhobiddin Zoirov of Uzbekistan to storm into the finals of the 72nd Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Deepak had a 4-1 win over fancied Zoirov, who claimed the 2019 world championship title beating Amit Panghal.

However, former youth world champion Jyoti Gulia (51kg) and Bhagyabati Kachari (75kg) bowed out of the women’s competition.

Jamil-coached NorthEast qualify for ISL play-offs

VASCO: NorthEast United FC sealed a play-offs berth with a 2-0 win over Kerala Blasters in an Indian Super League match here on Friday.
