PATNI ROAD TO BE CONCRETISED BY END OF APRIL, SAYS NAVI MUM CIVIC BODY
NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will complete the concretisation of Patni Road in Airoli by April end.
The civic body had started concretising the 2.5km-long road in October and the work is now under way. A budget of ₹48Cr was allocated for the project, a senior officer said.
Patni Road, which runs through the iconic Knowledge Park, connects Airoli to Digha. Around 30,000 employees of the Knowledge Park and nearly two lakh residents of Digha and Airoli will benefit from it.
Sanjay Desai, executive engineer of NMMC, said, “The road had been in a very bad shape for the last several years. The NMMC had sanctioned the concretisation work back in October 2018. However, it took us a long time to finalise the contractor. We completed all the formalities in September and the work was finally started on October 25.”
According to Desai, apart from concretising the main road, they are also developing a foot over bridge (FOB) near the proposed Digha railway station. The FOB will help the railway commuters to cross the busy road in the future.
“We are also developing gutters and pavements on each side of the road. There will be a total of six lanes with a divider in the middle,” he said.
“The civic body had asked us to complete the work by March, 2022. However, our work is now going on in full swing and we will complete it almost one year before the deadline,” he added.
The local residents welcomed the move. Swati Naik, 36, a resident of Airoli said, “The concretised road will help us Digha within 10-15 minutes, and not 45 minutes that we take now.”
