NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra isolated herself on Friday after her husband Robert Vadra tested positive for Covid-19. Though the Congress leader has tested negative for the virus, she has cancelled her trips to Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala for election campaigns as a precautionary measure.

“I have been exposed to the coronavirus. Although I tested negative yesterday, the doctors have advised that I self isolate for a few days,” said the 49-year-old in a 41-second video message posted on Twitter.

Priyanka Gandhi, who has been campaigning for the Congress in poll-bound states, toured Kerala on March 30 and 31, and was scheduled to visit Assam on Friday, Tamil Nadu on Saturday, and Kerala on Sunday.

“I’d like to apologise to everybody for not being able to be there. I wish the candidates that I was supposed to campaign for the very, very best. I hope all of you do well and the Congress is victorious,” she said.

In a separate Facebook post, Robert Vadra said he has tested positive after he came in contact with someone who was infected. “Hi friends, unfortunately, I came into contact with someone COVID +ve and have tested positive for COVID although I am asymptomatic so far. As per the COVID guidelines, Priyanka and I are self-isolating although she has tested negative,” he said.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced that his campaign will continue as per schedule. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has kept herself away from the campaign on medical advice. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, too, has been advised by his doctors to stay indoors.
