KALYAN: The 15 private hospitals treating Covid patients in Bhiwandi are facing shortage of oxygen since the last two days, informed the Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC).

One of the private hospitals located at Dhamankar Naka in Bhiwandi faced severe shortage of oxygen on Tuesday. Followed by this, the patients were also asked to look for alternative hospitals. The hospital also stopped admitting new patients. This particular hospital has 60 beds, out of which 21 are occupied. However, there was a lack of oxygen for those admitted.

The BNCMC officials claimed that although the patients were asked to shift, none of them were shifted. “The requirement of oxygen in Bhiwandi is 13 tons daily. However, we only have eight tons available in stock. There is a shortage in almost all the private hospitals. We have written to the FDA to provide the required amount of oxygen. Although the hospital had asked the patients to shift but no patient has been shifted so far,” said Deepak Jingad, deputy commissioner, BNCMC.

Meanwhile, in Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) limits too, the officials claimed that the oxygen is available in all civic body-run centres and hospitals. The private hospitals are facing shortage.

“The private hospitals are facing shortage and the civic chief is trying to provide whenever required through different companies. As of now, the KDMCrun hospitals require five metric tons of oxygen daily,” said Sameer Sarvankar, KDMC deputy municipal medical officer.
