MORE +VE CASES IN VARTAK NGR, MAJIWADA

THANE: The cases in Thane might have seen a decline. However, both Vartak Nagar and Majiwada-Manpada wards within Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) see the most number of Covid positive cases on a daily basis. While both these wards record around 10 to 15 positive cases daily, the other wards record less than 10.

Officials attribute this to the increased population in these wards in comparison to other parts of the city. “We have been continuously monitoring all these areas on a ward level as well. Moreover, Majiwada-Manpada and Vartak Nagar areas mostly have residential properties and also a sizable amount of the city’s population reside in these two wards. This is the reason for the consistent higher positive cases coming from these areas,” said Dr Vaijyanti Deogekar, health officer, TMC.

Dr Vipin Sharma, TMC commissioner, added, “It has been observed that the areas that saw a spike of cases during the first two waves have now seen a decline in cases and vice versa. We follow uniform coverage of testing in all the wards. Thane has a moving population and these wards are divided for administrative purposes. We need to guard the city uniformly and ensure that the positive cases do not rise. Hence, we conduct 2,500 to 3,000 tests on a daily basis despite the daily positive cases revolving around 50 to 60 on a regular basis.”

Vartak Nagar, Uthalsar and Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar areas had between 10 and 20 cases on a daily basis in January. Mid-April saw a spike.
