31 roads in twin cities to be concretised
KALYAN: In a major boost to the roads across Kalyan–Dombivli, 31 roads will be concretised and widened by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The MMRDA has sanctioned the funds for the project, in which some of the roads will be developed by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC).
Sapna Koli, city engineer, KDMC, said, “Developing all these roads by ourselves was difficult for lack of funds. Now, as the MMRDA has decided to take up the monetary responsibility, the city will benefit from it.”
Of the 31 roads, seven will be done by the KDMC for which the civic body will spend ₹28.49Cr while the rest will be built by the MMRDA by spending ₹ 332.11Cr. A total of ₹360.60Cr will be spent for these roads.
“These include both concrete and asphalt roads. The project will be undertaken in the entire jurisdiction of KDMC even if the road belongs to the PWD of MIDC,” added Koli.
The elevated road from Thakurli railway station to Masoba Chowk Road, which was pending for the last several years due to lack of funds, will be taken up under this project.
“This road will help improve the connectivity to the Thakurli bridge, easing the traffic movement on that stretch. The roads will be concretised and widened. Hence, they will help ease the traffic movement across the KDMC limits,” added Koli.
The civic body will prepare an estimate and submit for the further tender processing. Some of the roads that will be covered in this project are the 15m Thakurli Railway Station to Masoba Chowk, Shil Road-Sandap Usarghar Road, Datta Nagar Chowk to Ashok Vatika in Dombivli, Katemanivali to Khadegolivali, Vijay Nagar Chowk to Amrai Chowk, Vitthalwadi Station to Surya School in Kalyan (E), Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Road to Krishna Talkies and Fish Market Road, Vallipeer Road to GK Chowk and Chirag Hotel Govindwadi road in Kalyan (W).
An officer from MMRDA said, ”The MMRDA has sanctioned the funds for the roads in the KDMC limits and it will be taken up once the tender process is done. These roads will be concretised and widened.”
“There are several roads in Kalyan-Dombivli that connect to the major link road and these roads are not in good shape, especially during monsoon. These roads, once concretised, will be a major relief for the commuters,” said Rajesh Pawar, 34, a commuter from Kalyan.
