Kane hopes Europa hat-trick sparks goal rush for Spurs

LONDON: Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane said he did not expect to feature in Thursday’s 5-1 Europa Conference League win over Slovenian minnows NS Mura but hoped his hat-trick can swing his domestic form for the club.

With Tottenham leading 2-1 through Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso, Kane marked his second-half appearance with a quick-fire treble. “I probably wasn’t expecting to come on today but it’s nice to get the minutes,” Kane told BT Sport. “Whenever you see the ball hit the back of the net it’s a good feeling. Hopefully we can take it into the weekend.”

Rumours of my sacking probably true: Koeman

BARCELONA: Ronald Koeman said on Friday that Barcelona’s leadership has not spoken to him about his future, but that he has “eyes and ears” to catch the rumors swirling about his possible firing.

“Nobody has told me anything, but I have eyes and ears and I know that things are being leaked. They are probably true, but nobody has told me,” Koeman said.

DOHA: The Indian men’s table tennis team signed off with a bronze medal in the Asian Championsh­ips after losing to formidable South Korea 0-3 in the semi-finals here on Friday.

The Indian team was on Wednesday assured of a medal after beating Iran 3-1 in the quarter-finals. In the semifinals, the clinical South Koreans proved too tough for the Indians.

Sekhon wins skeet silver at Junior Worlds

LIMA: Rising Indian woman skeet shooter Ganemat Sekhon won a silver medal at the ISSF Junior World Championsh­ip here on Friday.

The Chandigarh shooter, who picked up her first senior ISSF World Cup stage medal in New Delhi earlier this year, went down in a shoot-off to American Alisha Fayth Layne, after both were tied on 46 hits in the 60-shot final. This was India’s fifth medal so far.
