THE BOY WAS SAVED IN THE NICK OF TIME AFTER HIS 16-YEAR-OLD SISTER FOUND HIM HANGING BY THE CEILING FAN WITH HER DUPATTA

MUMBAI: A 14-year-old boy tried to commit suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Santacruz (East) after he was scolded by his father for getting a haircut in a style similar to that of singer Yoyo Honey Singh. His father had also been insisting that he concentrate on his studies.

The boy was saved in the nick of time after his 16-year-old sister found him hanging by the ceiling fan with her dupatta. The girl immediately caught his legs and alerted the neighbours, who took the boy to a private hospital in the vicinity.

Police officers said the boy’s mother works as a sweeper in the same hospital and the doctors immediately put him on ventilator and gave him all possible treatment. The boy who was unconscious for nearly two days is currently in stable condition but under observation in the Intensive Care Unit.

The boy’s father, who works as a driver, had scolded him on Saturday for his new haircut and for neglecting his studies and left for work, a police officer said, adding that the boy was upset because of this and tried to take the drastic step in the evening. However, his sister who was in the adjoining room, saw him and alerted neighbours, he said.

His uncle told HT that the boy’s father did not think the boy would react in such a way over being scolded.

“The boy studies in Class 9 in a local school. We have reported the incident and once the boy is discharged from hospital we will record his statement” said Vilas Joshi, senior inspector at Vakola police station.
