I am surprised to see the treatment of former Congress spokespers­on Shashi Tharoor by his party. (Modi praise costs Shashi Tharoor Congress post, October 14). Tharoor, who has been a dignified leader throughout his political career, drew flak from his own party men for the praise he bestowed on the Prime Minister’s successful cleanlines­s drive. To be honest, I don’t think Tharoor has done anything wrong. The incident only goes to show the failings within the Congress party. Leaders are expected to fall in line with the party diktat, even if it does not appeal to their conscience. as second-class citizens and have been exploited by communal parties such as the BJP for political gains (Parsis shifting their loyalties to

BJP?, October 14 ). However, it is time they voted for candidates who have helped develop areas dominated by the community. At a time when the community is struggling to cope with inflation and has been cheated by false promises of developmen­t by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is important that they vote for a secular party such as the Congress. one of the largest epidemics in the world and with no vaccine or cure in sight, the contagious virus is spreading like wildfire all over the world. The Indian health ministry should spell out safety measures, which people can follow to prevent getting the disease. Greater awareness is the only way to protect ourselves.
