‘School punishes students for not collecting funds’
KALYAN: Class 8 students of St Jude’s High School in Kalyan (East) are being forced to raise funds for construction of a new building for the school, parents have alleged. While the school authorities have refuted the allegations, parents claim students are being forced to go door-to-door and are allegedly punished and are made to kneel down for five hours Saturday, 15 students from division C of Class 8 were punished for not collecting the funds. The students were allegedly asked to stand up throughout all classes, but as other students were getting distracted, they were later asked to kneel down from 7am to 1pm.
“On Saturday, my son started crying saying he does not want to go to school. He said he was made to kneel down for almost five hours in the class for failing to collect funds for the school When they have received several such complaints in the past,” said a parent, requesting anonymity.
One of the representatives of the school management said, “The complaints are baseless Our Kalyan. The allegations are baseless.” The school principal refused to comment on the issue.
SL Daule, senior inspector, Kolsewadi police station, said, “We have received a letter pertaining will look into the allegations.” An FIR has not been lodged.
According to parents, the students were given the receipt book, with 20-25 receipts, three months ago. They were asked to collect Rs200 from each donor by September 30. While the students who collected the maximum amount were praised in front of the class, the others were humiliated, said parents.
