PM to meet council of ministers on Thursday
NEW DELHI: The entire council of Union ministers will have a dinner meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Thursday.
Coming ahead of the end of the year, the meeting is dubbed as ‘routine interaction’ between the PM and his team members. While Modi keeps meeting the junior ministers frequently, such meetings of the entire team are rare.
“Such events are generally meant to seek feedback from the ministers and give them certain messages. No agenda has been set for this meeting as such,” a Union minister said.
The last time the Prime Minister met junior ministers of his team was in March, wherein he had also sought inputs from them on government schemes and the general mood of people.
Another cabinet minister said the present logjam in Parliament may come up for discussion.
Government sources claimed the party had received “feedback” from different quarters that while its “outreach” to the opposition to get the GST and other legislations had been appreciated, there was a sense that a full majority government must also show “authority”.
This meeting between the PM and his team also comes against the backdrop of the questions that have been raised about BJP’S electoral invincibility following its poor show in Bihar.
Government sources said the PM would ask his ministers to pull up their socks and try to spruce up functioning of their ministries, which may be required to deliver on the propeople scheme the Modi government has in the pipeline.
