Shardul leads the way as Mumbai sweep past Services

HYDERABAD: Shardul Thakur’s merry run in the domestic circuit continued as he set the foundation for Mumbai’s convincing win over Services in the Group A match of the Vijay Hazare One-day cricket tournament on Tuesday.

Put into bat, Services batsmen had no answer to Mumbai new ball bowlers led by Thakur and were bundled out 151 before Mumbai galloped towards the target in 25.2 overs.

Thakur was the pick of the bowlers with figure of four for 19 in 7.1 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni, Shashank Singh and Iqbal Abdullah also chipped in with two wickets each as Services batting folded in 42.1 overs.

Opener Nakul Verma struck a patient 50 while Rajat Paliwal (41) and Saumya Swain (28) were the only significan­t contributo­rs for Services as other batsmen failed to cross double figures.

The Aditya Tare-led side then got down to business right away with opener Akhil Herwadkar top-scoring with 46 runs while in-form Shreyas Iyer also contribute­d a quick-fire 35.

victory over Rajasthan and put them on the verge of a quarterfin­al spot.

With their fourth win in five matches, Punjab are on top of Group A with 16 points and a match to go.

Courtesy Yuvraj, who hit 10 fours and two sixes, Punjab raced to the victory target of 271 in only 44.4 overs. Opener Jiwanjot Singh (66) and Mandeep Singh (60) also made significan­t contributi­ons. Rajasthan 270/7 (Manender Singh 118, Brainder Sran 4/60). Punjab 273/4 in 44.4 overs (Yuvraj Singh 78*, Jiwanjot Singh 66, Mandeep Singh 60). Punjab win by 6 wickets.

Hyderabad 271/8 (TD Agarwal 83, G Vihari 51; AK Das 3/45, J Bhumij 3/58). Assam 199 in 50 overs (PP Das 54; Ravi Kiran 3/30, C Milind 3/44). Hyderabad won by 72 runs.

Along with Mayank Siddana (25), Yuvraj added 75 runs in only 9.3 overs as they hardly broke sweat while achieving the target.

Earlier, Brainder Sran (4/60) had the best figures as Rajasthan posted a decent 270/7 in 50 overs.

Wicketkeep­er-batsman Manender Singh scored 118 in 129 balls with six boundaries and three sixes while Puneet Yadav (43) and Ashok Menaria (32) also chipped in with useful runs.
