Four held for making bogus credit cards

MUMBAI: The Unit 9 of the Mumbai crime branch arrested four people on Saturday, who used to procure data of genuine credit card holders and later prepared bogus credit cards with the original data. The accused used the credit cards for purchases in shopping centres and malls in the western suburbs.

The arrested accused have been identified as Jaisingh Rathod, Vishwajeet Chhatri, Faizal Abdul Altaf Razak alias Faizi and Nitin Ingle. The police have seized a car, 92 bogus credit cards and 9 driving licenses and several other documents from them. Faizi is said to be an expert for cloning debit and credit cards. He is wanted in several cases for the same crimes. He has committed crimes in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and several other cities.

Senior inspector Mahesh Desai of unit 9 and his team got a specific tip-off about the accused that they have come for shopping in Shoppers stop at Bandra (west). A police team soon laid a trap in the mall and arrested the accused.

During questionin­g, the accused confessed that they used to procure stolen data of genu ine credit cards from a Nigerian national and later feed the data into laptops.

Later, Faizi used to feed data into blank cards and prepared bogus credit cards. They also made identity cards so that they can produce them while shopping if anyone gets suspicious of their activity.

“We also learnt during inter rogation that the accused used to buy blank cards from one Raj and data from a Nigerian national Further investigat­ion is going on,” said a police officer.
