POLICE DOG INVOLVED IN 26/11 OPERATION DIES

- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: A police dog involved in the 26/11 terror attack operations died at a retirement farm in Virar on Saturday. Tiger, the retired police dog who helped Mumbai police officials detect bombs outside the Taj hotel in Colaba during the 2008 attack, had been staying at the Fiza farmhouse.

There were four sniffer dogs who worked round the clock during the attack — Sultan, Max, Caesar and Tiger.

They were part of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) in Mumbai and retired two years ago, after completing 10 years of service.

Fizzah Shah — who runs a private farmhouse called Fiza — takes care of animals rescued by her.

She approached the Mumbai police commissioner last year, seeking to adopt the retired dogs.

The Mumbai police gave her all the four dogs in May 2015, after verifying the details of her farmhouse.

“Tiger, a black Labrador was depressed and lonely after his brother, Sultan, died in June. The two had joined the Goregaon bomb detection and disposal unit when they were three months old,” Shah added.

“Tiger and Sultan were welltrained. I hired one more person especially to take care of them. We put a lot of effort into monitoring their diet and treatment,” added Shah.

“Tiger was strong, active and loved to play. However, two days ago, he became slow,” added Shah.

“When he died, Caesar sat down and refused to get up,” said Shah.

“Caesar has age-related health problems, so we have admitted him to the hospital,” she said. MUMBAI: The organs of a 10-yearold boy who was declared braindead on Saturday night were used to save the lives of four end-stage organ failure patients.

His kidneys were transplanted
