NEET phase II easier than phase I, say medical aspirants
NEET II FOLLOWED ITS REGULAR PATTERN WHERE CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS ARE COMPETITIVE, BUT BIOLOGY IS RELATIVELY SIMPLE
MUMBAI: Medical aspirants who took the National Eligibility-cumentrance Examination (NEET) phase II held on Sunday, said they found the paper easier than that of phase I.
The test was conducted in 56 cities at 739 centres. Of the 4.76 lakh candidates who registered for the examination, more than 90% of them were present for it.
While students said NEET — based on the class 11 and class 12 curriculum set by the national council of educational research and training — was tougher than the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) — based on class 12 state board textbooks — they were able to sail through it. They said the biology section was easier than the physics and chemistry sections.
“I didn’t take the NEET I examination, but it seems that Sunday’s paper was easier than the phase I paper,” said Ankit Patel, who answered the NEET II. Salman Shaikh, another aspirant, said that the paper was easier than expected.
Students were forced to prepare for the national-level examination after the Supreme Court set aside its 2013 decision scrapping the NEET in April. Following this, the Central Board of Secondary Education which conducts the examina tion, decided to rechristen the All India Pre-medical Test (AIPMT) — scheduled on May 5 — as NEET phase I. Students who didn’t register for AIPMT were allowed to take NEET phase II. The SC let aspirants who took NEET I sit for NEET II as well.
“It appears that NEET II was easier compared to NEET I as the CBSE simply renamed AIPMT — a relatively tougher exam — as NEET I without actually chang ing the paper,” said Subhash Joshi, trustee, Science Parivar a coaching class in Borivli. He added that NEET II followed its regular pattern where chemistry and physics are competitive, but biology is relatively simple.
The combined result of NEET I and NEET II will be declared by August 17.
