JUDITH’S RETURN FROM CAPTIVITY HEARTWARMING

-

The return of Judith D’souza, the Indian aid worker held captive in Afghanistan, to India is heartwarming (After 6 weeks in captivity of Afghan gang, Judith returns, July 24). Aid workers in troubled nations are always a soft target. Kudos to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and the Afghan security forces for reaching to her aid and rescuing her from the clutches of local gangsters. It is a sigh of relief to read about Indian aid worker Judith D’souza’s safe return. Aid workers in particular have been targeted in Afghanistan in recent years. A Catholic priest from India was kidnapped by gunmen in Herat in June 2014 and rescued in February the next year. The Modi government has been prompt in their efforts to bring Judith back.
