UDDHAV SLAMS BJP, PM OVER KASHMIR CRISIS

- HT Correspondent

MUMBAI: In another attack on ally Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday slammed the Narendra Modi government for its stance on the recent Kashmir violence.

Thackeray said the time had come for the country to adopt an ideology and proclaim India as “Hindu Rashtra”.

In a first part of the three-part series of an interview in party mouthpiece Saamna ahead of his 56th birthday on July 27, Uddhav said the country is stuck between the dilemma of Hindutva and secularism. “If speaking about Hindutva is being considered a crime in our country then at least don’t discriminate with secularism.” The Sena chief has been continuously slamming the BJP and its government since the parties parted ways ahead of the Assembly election in 2014.

“We now have to adopt any one ideology and that should be proclaiming India a ‘Hindu state because we are left with no other option. Enough of secular blan dishment. Because of this, Hindus are facing injustice,” Uddhav said on the backdrop of the Kashmir violence.

He slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the nation to a confusing state and also failing to control violence and unrest in Jammu and Kashmir “People could not understand what is going on and who is running the country,” he said.

“Why is Jammu and Kashmir suddenly up in flames? Who is responsible for this? Anti-india slogans are being raised. The Amarnath Yatra was stopped Kashmiris are on the streets, sol diers and police have been attacked without any fear. How long will this go on?” Thackeray asked that raised doubts on the leadership quality of the Prime Minister.

“The Prime Minister has toured many states, including Kashmir then why is he not going to Kashmir now and standing behind the Hindus because now he is in the government and has the police and security forces on his side,” he asked.

He questioned the action against Sanatan Sanstha, a right wing outfit, saying when Hindus were attacked, where were the sec ularists. “Sanatan Sanstha is being crushed like a snake. We don’t support them, but let the truth come out. You (the government) is neither ready to run the trial nor allow the truth to come out. This cannot be justice,” Thackeray said
