Four men attack Ola driver and flee with car in Sion

MUMBAI: An Ola cab driver was attacked by a group of four men in Sion on Sunday night. The gang stole the car and drove away after attacking the driver with a knife.

According to Wadala T.T police, Praveen Subhash Gholap, 37, was ferrying four passengers who had booked the cab via the online applicatio­n. They were driving in the direction of Ghatkopar when the passengers asked the drivers to stop at I-max junction on Wadala-chembur link road at around 11.10pm.

“The men attacked Gholap’s arm with a knife and asked him to get down from the car,” said a police officer.

The accused escaped with the grey Swift Dzire worth Rs8.50 lakh, cash worth Rs13,400 and two phones. “The accused checked the driver’s wallet and the car, after which they escaped with the cash,” said the officer

Gholap suffered injuries and was admitted to Sion hospital He approached the police. A case has been registered against four unidentifi­ed persons. The police are checking the CCTV cameras installed in the area to ascertain the identity of the accused.
