Helicopter with six on board makes precaution­ary landing at school

MUMBAI: Four people, including two minors, were injured after a mud-carrying dumper fell on huts in a slum from a bridge on the Sion-panvel highway at Mankhurd on Saturday.

The police said that the incident took place at around 3am on Saturday when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The driver of the dumper and a cleaner were among the injured. According to police officials, the two minors have been identified as Tarhana Raviprakas­h Pathari, 10, and Roxy Pathari, 9, who lived in the slum at Jayhind Nagar. While Tarhana sustained bruises on the legs Roxy suffered head injury.

The driver, Sanjay Paswan ,33, Prajapati, 30, are recuperati­ng from their injuries and have been admitted to Rajawadi hospital.

An officer from Mankhurd police station said, “The dumper was heading towards Vashi and was overloaded with mud. However, the driver could couldn’t control the speeding vehicle while turning it on the bridge. So the vehicle overturned and fell down.”

The passengers included senior officials of the Gas Authority of India Limited. The copter was heading from Baroda to Juhu Aerodrome, when the chopper pilot, Captain PJ Singh, encountere­d a huge cloud base that had come down to 200 feet.

As a standard safety protocol, the chopper landed in the school premises, which was closest open space to make a priority stopover, said officials.
