Former Congress councillor shot dead

NAGPUR:FORMER Congress Councillor of Yavatmal municipali­ty, Pravin Diwte was shot dead by unidentifi­ed gunmen in his house at Yavatmal on Saturday around 7.30am, around 150km from Mumbai. Diwte was recently acquitted in the Guntha Raut murder case.

According to reports, eight to ten assailants barged into Diwte’s house, blinded him with chili powder and then fired four bullets at his chest. He was also attacked with swords and knives. Critically injured and profusely bleeding, Diwte was rushed to the government -run Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police suspect gang rivalry as the motive behind the murder. Three suspects have been detained, said sources.
