CBFC objects to Savita Bhabhi in Baar Baar Dekho
MUMBAI: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) made news once again for suggesting three cuts in the upcoming Katrina Kaif-sidharth Malhotra starrer Baar Baar Dekho. Reportedly, the committee objected to an offensive shot of a woman’s brasserie and a naughty reference to Savita Bhabhi, popular porn comic character. When the producers agreed to the cuts, the film was issued a UA certificate. The film is scheduled to release on September 9.
When contacted, Anurag Srivastav, CEO, CBFC, said, “Unless you see the film and the context of the scenes in it, one can’t explain the decision. The cuts depend on the committee members who watch the film and consider the overall theme, presentation and language of the film. These cuts were very small and are not imposed whimsically or arbitrarily. They follow the guidelines formulated by the Indian government since 1991, depending on which we make recommendations.”
Talking about the neverending debate between certification and recommending cuts, he said, “Cuts are allowed as per Section 4 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, which states that the Censor board can impose a cut. Our basic purpose is to certify and we would like to do just only and not suggest cuts. But as the law exists, so we can also suggest cuts.”
