Af­ter the In­dian Army an­nounced it car­ried out sur­gi­cal strikes and in­flicted se­ri­ous dam­age on ter­ror­ists and their sup­port­ers across the Line of Con­trol, Pak­istan will find that it has lit­tle space to re­spond to the op­er­a­tions. Here’s why:

New Delhi suc­cess­fully iso­lated Is­lam­abad diplo­mat­i­cally be­fore it car­ried out the strikes. It was not merely how it quickly wrecked the Saarc sum­mit in Is­lam­abad but it was also no­table how it got the US to is­sue a strong state­ment against Pak­istan over the Uri at­tacks. China may re­main Pak­istan’s “all-weather friend” but it has de­clined to in­ter­vene mil­i­tar­ily on Is­lam­abad’s side.
