I wasn’t allowed to speak in House: NMMC chief
The no-confidence motion against Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) chief Tukaram Mundhe was passed by the special NMMC general body meeting on Tuesday.
The NCP, Shiv Sena and the Congress voted in favour of it with only the BJP in the 111member house opposing it. The motion was passed 104-6, with one NCP corporator being absent. The corporators raised banners in the house listing allegations against Mundhe.
Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane said, “We will send the approved resolution to the state government for action on it as per the wishes of the house. We will also request it to depute an official from Cidco of the same rank to take charge of the civic body at the earliest.”
Later, Mundhe said that the allegations levelled against him in the house had no truth in them. “I was not given permission to speak. I would have replied to the allegations. I will wait for the government’s orders,” said the NMMC chief.
Later, Sonawane wrote to Navi Mumbai police commissioner Hemant Nagrale, asking him to ban Mundhe’s entry into NMMC headquarters. “I have informed the police commissioner about the no-confidence motion passed against Mundhe. I have stated that the sentiments against him are strong and hence if he takes any decision, there could be a law and order situation in the city,” said Sonawane.
In the past few days, residents had come out in support of Mundhe. Social activist Brijesh Misra, who had organised a rally in support of the commissioner, said: “We will discuss the development with likeminded people and take a call on filing a writ petition.”
