CITY CONTINUES TO BEAR THE HEAT AT 38.3° CELSIUS
A day after the city recorded its third highest February day temperature for the decade, maximum temperatures registered a marginal drop providing Mumbaiites no relief from the heat on Sunday.

“The weather system at the south Konkan region still persists and is pulling warm winds from the land. The easterly to north-easterly winds will prevail over the Konkan coast through the coming week,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department. “The weather conditions have led to a heat wave like situation at south Konkan regions,” he added.
On February 18, the Santacruz weather station had recorded 38.8 degrees Celsius, 8.1 degrees Celsius above normal, equal to the maximum temperature recorded in February 2015.
The highest February day temperature was recorded in 2012 at 39.1 degrees Celsius, which is the highest for the decade and the all-time high was recorded at 39.6 degrees Celsius on February 25, 1966.
Night temperatures in the suburbs were below normal levels at 17.4 degrees Celsius but the minimum temperature at south Mumbai was closer to the normal mark at 21.5 degrees Celsius.
