Shiv Sena wants penguin exhibit open before term in BMC ends
Shiv Sena, the ruling party in the BMC currently, is pushing to get the penguin exhibit at the Byculla zoo inaugurated before the current term of the civic body ends and a new mayor is appointed. The existing members of the civic standing committee will visit the exhibit on Friday.
An unsatisfactory report from experts on the environment of the exhibit, however, is likely to play spoilsport. Civicauthoritiessaid they will send two more samples of water from the exhibit for testing on Friday. In the week after the results of the BMC polls were announced, the general body where the Sena currently enjoys majority , approved the proposal of handing over the Mayor’s Bungalow to a public trust to develop a memorial of its founder, Bal Thackeray. It is now looking to inaugurate the exhibit before the new corporators take over. It was the existing body that approved the proposal of getting penguins tobycullazoo. Trushnavishwasrao, leader of house and current Sena corporator, said, “As the work is complete, we want the inauguration , as the project started and was completed in our tenure.” The penguins project had received criticism, especially after the death of a female penguin. A senior civic officer said, “The first test was done a few days ago, and the water samples from the exhibit was unsatisfactory. After a cleaning, samples were collected and will be sent for testing on Friday again.
