MUMBAI: The Byculla police on Wednesday arrested a 19-yearold Amazon delivery man for replacing a Sony Playstation bought from the company with stones.

Mujjawar Anwar Fardhan, a resident of Bandra, cheated his employer of Rs32,290, said the police. He had ordered the gaming device along with a friend.

On February 20, Fardhan and his friend placed the order to be delivered at JJ Marg and opted for the cash payment option.

“On February 22, Fardhan was given the product to be delivered to the address. He instead took the product to his friend’s house, removed the Playstation and filled the box with stones,”said an officer from Byculla police station.

“The police said Fardhan used stones to maintain the weight of the box. he returned the device to the company, claiming incorrect address,” said the officer.

The cheating came to light after Amazon employees opened the box to check the product and returned it to the manufacturer, saying it was full of stones.

Denying they had goofed up, Sony said on February 27 that it suspected the swap was made at Amazon’s office.

“Amazon officials confronted Fardhan. He confessed to the crime. One manager registered a complaint on February 28,” said the officer.

Senior police inspector Avinash Shingte from Byculla said the police were checking Fardhan’s criminal antecedents.

He has been booked under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust ) of the Indian Penal Code.

He was produced in a Mazgaon court and remanded in police custody till Friday.
