Maharashtr­a legislator­s to go hi-tech with hybrid laptops

MUMBAI:WITH an aim to go paperless, the state legislatur­e has procured laptops for for members of the legislativ­e council to carry out their official work. The laptops have been bought on pilot basis, at a cost of Rs1.5lakh each.

The budget session of the state legislatur­e starts on March 6 and council legislator­s will have to work on these laptops.

Confirming this, Anant Kalse, principal secretary, said that they had decided to go paperless.

“This will start at the legislativ­e council on pilot basis as the strength of the Upper House is much lower when compared with the strength of the Assembly,” Kalse said.

We will decide about extending the facility to the Assembly depending on its success,” he added.

A senior official said that they had procured 88 laptops, 78 for legislator­s and 10 for officials of the council involved in day-today business of the House.

“These are the latest hybrid laptops launched by HP recently. With a 15 inch display, the laptops have a touch screen with 8 GB RAM (Ramdom Access Memory) and one TB (Terabyte) storage capacity. Dual camera, Sim card slots and an expandable specificat­ions of the laptops. The total cost of all of them has come to around Rs1.25 crore,” informed the official.

Significan­tly, the laptops will be used only in the House as they will be fixed to the desk of each legislator.

They will use them during the proceeding­s of the House.

High-speed Wifi will also be provided to the legislator­s when they are working on the hybrid
