Money can’t buy you happiness. Treasure your loved ones

- Jayati Goel

People say money is the most important thing in the world. It can buy everything, conquer every other object and its acquisition is undoubtedly the most powerful feeling. But I differ. The most powerful thing is the bond forged between people.

There are certain things in life in front of which currency has no value— such as friends, family, and good memories. From happiness to honesty, these are some of the life’s best treasures that cost nothing at all. For some people, money brings them a lot of happiness. You can say: “Sure, but everyone wants money too, don’t they?” To that, I’d say you’re probably right, but it doesn’t always bring people the right forms of happiness. Money can’t make you fall in love, give you kids or parents that love you, good friends, or many other things. Money is a piece of paper. Let me explain with examples. I am hungry. I have money in my pocket, but the shops are closed. It’s late at night, and I am feeling that I wish I had something to eat. How has money solved my problem? When someone dies, how can money bring back that dead person? There are people who are truly lucky. Someone who has everything could buy stuff to fill the void but instead, that void would keep increasing in size. The void can only be filled by people, so we need friends and family not just money. Even then, we should never disrespect money or disrespect, Lakshmi, the Hindu deity of wealth. If you have extra money, then you can always spend money for the welfare of poor people.
