Indian women beat Belarus 51 in hockey test match

BHOPAL: Playing their first match since the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy triumph last year, India women beat the visiting Belarus national squad 5-1 in the inaugural Test on Thursday. India took the early lead in the 11th minute through a penalty corner and followed it up with a sensationa­l field goal by Navjot Kaur in the 15th minute. Though Belarus did well to defend their circle in the second quarter, Punam Barla came up with good stick-work to set up a goal in the 29th minute. In the fourth quarter, captain Deep Grace Ekka (57th min) and Gurjit Kaur (60th) scoring off penalty corners.

ALI-MUSTAFA CHAMPS IN HIMALAYAN DRIVE

India’s TSD (Time, Speed and Distance) kings were in tremendous form in this demanding fivelegged championsh­ip, taking the lead early on the first day and tenaciousl­y hanging on to it till the very end. They tackled the tough hilly terrain, demanding forest paths and every obstacle that was thrown at them.

Deep Dutta and Prakash Muthuswamy finished second while Ashish Budhia and Arindam Ghosh took the remaining spot on the podium.

AMANDEEP GRABS LEAD WITH FOUR-UNDER PAR

GURGAON:AMANDEEP Drall carded an impressive four-under 68 to take the sole lead on day two of the fifth leg of the Hero Women’s Profession­al Golf Tour 2017 at the Classic Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

Trailing her in tied second position are Walailak Satarak, Vani Kapoor and Gaurika Bishnoi with identical scores of 141 after 36 holes at ₹8,00,000 event which will culminate on Friday.
