15-yr-old dies after bus hits him in Vashi

15-year-old boy died after being hit by an NMMT bus on Friday. His friend received minor injuries in the incident. Police have arrested the bus driver.

The boys, both class 9 students in a civic school in Vashi, had been sent out by their teacher to buy stationery.

The incident occurred at 10.15am at Juhugaon, when an NMMT Volvo bus of route number 123 hit the students who were on a bicycle.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Rajaram Bobde and his classmate as Babu Shankar Pawar.

Assistant inspector Rupesh Naik said, “Both were students of a municipal school in Vashi and had been sent out to buy paper. The two were on a bicycle. Pawar was riding it. As they were crossing the Vashi-kopar Khairane main road, the bus hit them. Bobde was rushed to NMMC hospital for treatment but died before being admitted.”

He added, “Prima facie, it appears that he died due to internal bleeding. There were no external injuries. Pawar escaped unhurt. He received only minor injuries from falling off the cycle.”

Police have arrested Deepak Patil, 49, the bus driver and booked him for rash and negli gent driving.

Bobde lived with his aunt in Kopri while his parents, who are farmers, stay in a village.

When contacted, NMMC edu cation officer Sandeep Sangwe said, “We have received informa tion that the students had been sent out during school hours to get stationery. If true, this is a serious matter. We shall investi gate the incident and take requi site action against those responsi ble for it.”

The deceased child’s family members and Kopri villagers gathered at NMMC civic hospita Friday night and refused to take the body demanding that action first be taken against the con cerned teacher and principal o the school. They were assured that proper investigat­ion will be conducted in the matter.
