Newspaper vendor stabbed in Kalyan

Officials from Bazarpeth police station arrested a 25-yearold vegetable vendor for stabbing a newspaper vendor to death in Kalyan on Tuesday.

“The deceased Sundeep Sunil Hire, 23, was walking out of a dhaba in near Ahilyabai chowk around 10.30 pm after celebratin­g a friend’s birthday party when he accidental­ly hit the accused’s bike,” Sanjay Shinde, deputy commission­er of police from Zone -3. This led to a heated argument between Hire and Jadhav in which Hire apparently assaulted the vegetable vendor.

Later, both of them headed off in the same direction when Jadhav made Hire stop and offered to pay for his vehicle’s repair He collect the money from him. Accepting the offer, Hire asked his friends to go ahead and rode off with Jhadav, said the police.

“When reached Durgadi fort (about three kilometers away from Ahilyabai chowk) Jadhav stopped his bike and asked Hire to get off. He then took out a knife and stabbed Hire several times and fled the spot,” said Dilip Suryawansh­i, senior inspector from Bazarpeth police station.

Passersby alerted the police and rushed Hire to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Suryawansh­i said, “We found his friend Hire’s friend who was waiting for him near Ahilyabai chowk. He narrated the entire incident to us after which we traced and nabbed the suspect from his house in Bhiwandi.”
