AN FIR HAS BEEN REGISTERED UNDER CHEATING AND FORGERY SECTIONS OF THE IPC

Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police on Tuesday arrested a 23-year-old woman and her senior citizen father-inlaw for using fake papers to get a United States (US) visa. The woman posed as another Indian national’s wife, and her fatherin-law helped her forge the documents. They were caught after US Consulate at BKC called their bluff during the visa interview on Tuesday.

According to the BKC police, the woman was identified as Ankita Prajapati, 23, a graduate, and the man as Atmaram Prajapati, 60. Both are residents of Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The woman’s husband is in the US for ‘work’. When the BKC police asked her why she did not apply for a visa with genuine documents, she said that her husband went there illegally. The woman, through an unknown person, managed to contact another Indian living in US and used his documents to pose as his wife.

“During the interview several questions were asked to find out if she was really the wife of the person. They also crosschecked the documents she had submitted and found out she was lying. After establishing that she had submitted forged documents, a person from the US consulate registered an FIR with us,” said a police official from BKC.

An FIR has been registered for cheating and forgery under the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before the Bandra magistrate court, and remanded to judicial custody.
